What to expect from liposuction recovery

The Journey to Your New Contour

Liposuction is transformative, but the results you see on the operating table take time to fully mature. Understanding the recovery timeline is crucial for peace of mind.

Week 1: The Swelling Phase

Most patients return home the same day. You will experience significant swelling and some bruising.

Wear your prescribed compression garment 24/7.
Stay hydrated to flush out remaining tumescent fluid.
Short walks are encouraged to prevent deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

Week 2-4: The Transition

Swelling starts to rapidly decline around day 14.

You may return to desk work.
Bruising typically resolves completely.
Lymphatic massage is highly beneficial during this phase to prevent fluid pockets and smooth the tissue.

Month 2-3: The Reveal

This is when the 'wow' factor begins.

You can resume intense exercise.
The "shrink wrap" effect of your skin conforming to the new muscular contour becomes highly visible.

Long-term Maintenance

Liposuction permanently removes fat cells in the treated area. However, it is not a free pass to ignore diet. Weight gain can cause remaining fat cells—both in treated and untreated areas—to expand. Maintain an active lifestyle to preserve your newly sculpted silhouette.
